In-Person & Zoom Demo: Jim Turner
Creative Painting From Photos
Mini Show is back by popular demand! Bring a piece of art to share! At 8pm we will have a 15 min break to socialize and view members' art.
The Minnesota Watercolor Society is excited to welcome Jim Turner to our May meeting at Brookview Community Center. He will discuss and demonstrate creative techniques for painting from photos.
Jim finds joy in creativity and expressing it through color, texture, value, and design. Even while busy with a career in medicine, he found James Tumer time to explore photography, sculpture, and printmaking. For the last 30 years, he has been working in and teaching watercolor. The outdoors is often his studio, and Jim emphasizes the importance of adding plein air painting to a landscape artist's practice.
"The act of getting outside and painting from nature is traditionally, and in my case, an amazing way to improve your painting. What you can see outdoors can be overwhelming. You really have to learn how to edit it down and to see what is important and what isn't."
Lessons learned from plein air painting are also helpful when working with photos. He will share many of those tips during his demo.
Jim is a signature member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society.
